³THE SPIRIT² MOVIE UPDATE
Odd Lot Takes The Spirit Rights
Superherohype.com USA

Rights to Will Eisner comic-book The Spirit have been purchased by financier Odd Lot Entertainment, which is planning a live-action feature adaptation, reports Variety.

Odd Lot's Gigi Pritzker and Deborah Del Prete will produce along with Batfilm's Michael Uslan, who is an executive producer on Batman Begins and Constantine.

Created in 1940, The Spirit is the story of a detective who thwarts an attempt to release a substance that will leave the inhabitants of Central City in suspended animation. He is exposed to the goo, giving him the ability to withstand any beating. He battles crime and a slew of femme fatales.

Hollywood Reporter
June 30, 2004

Warner Independent Pictures is in for "Fifty Percent." Warners' specialty film arm is developing the dark comedy with producers Steven Haft and Odd Lot Entertainment's Deborah Del Prete and Gigi Pritzker. Writer Darin Mark is on board to pen the script, which follows three waitresses who agree to marry for money, get divorced and take 50% of each man's net worth so they can start their real lives on a tropical island. Five years later, one woman is ready to cash out whether the other girls are in or not. Michael Andreen and Tracey Bing are overseeing for WIP. Haft's recent credits include "Eulogy," "The Singing Detective," "Tigerland" and "Beautiful Joe." Odd Lot Entertainment's other projects include "The Reckoning" and "Hooligans." WIP's upcoming titles include "A Scanner Darkly," "One Thing Always," "The Bielski Brothers" and "Brideshead Revisited," the feature film version of the British TV classic. Mark is repped by Endeavor, Benderspink and Gregg Gellman and Michael Fuller at Barnes, Morris, Klein, Mark, Yorn, Barnes and Levine.

By Marcia Freidenreich
Ft. Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel
July 18 2004

The diverse sprinkling of age groups among the audience at the Comic Book Mania event at Nova Southeastern University offered a hint that comics will continue enthralling readers of all ages for as long as one can foresee.

Tamarac's Will Eisner, the featured speaker at the event in the Davie university's Alvin Sherman Library, Research and Information Technology Center, discussed his career in the comic book industry and his role as a pioneer of the graphic novel -- a narrative discussing serious issues that is written in comic book form.

Guru of graphic novel talks literature
By Yvonne Carey
Miami Herald (Requires Registration)

A resurgence of interest in superhero comics as literature drove Dante Tang, Nova Southeastern University's young adult librarian, to bring in the granddaddy of the graphic novel, Will Eisner, to discuss its evolution.

The July 10 event drew more than 75 people interested in cutting-edge Japanese animé/manga comics and the famous man who coined the term ''graphic novel,'' raising the bar on comic book text and value by giving it a name.
